My God stuff thinkings

When I was in my very early twenties, God used my mother to give me some advice which has become so much more important the older I have become.

I was newly married to my childhood sweetheart and best friend, suffering post-traumatic stress disorder, depression and a newly developed eating disorder as a coping mechanism to the abusive relationship I was caught in for 18months. This was born from a struggle to interact in a world as an 18yr old who had been sheltered and yet not from sexual abuse. My childhood was seriously idyllic if not for this.

Breaking away from my best friend at 18yrs, as he went to med school in the South Island and I into my nursing degree, I was ripe picking for a 31yr old divorced man with a personality disorder, belonging to a new and exciting church he introduced me to. For this introduction of Christian life outside of my wonderful, yet religious upbringing, I will always be grateful to God who answered my pleading heart for a depth and real purpose. God will use anything to bring us closer to Him! The abuse was worth it.

Anyway, so there I was as an early twenty year old, desperately low and out of control from this tramatic time.

My mother, an incredible woman, advised me to write little sayings or words that I was thankful for, and pin them in the bathroom. So I did. On little square sticky notes, I wrote at least three things a day (as was our deal) that made me smile and be thankful.

I covered a bathroom wall slowly within those next months. I also learned to run.

If she hadn’t pushed me and checked on my progress to surround myself with grateful thoughts, I may not have made it out of that time.

Surrounding myself with God’s words now, is the only way for me to keep my head above the foggy waters. He has never let me sink again, though I have had opportunity in this life. He wants us to immerse in His words of life, until our beings become so saturated in His truths about Himself that we ooze out His powerful, incomparable life to those around us.

Words are so important.

We are to make the word of our life read something great about the author. Surround yourself with Him and He will change your word’s meaning to be declaring His name.

Kylie, I would be delighted to have my name as a side character in your next book. I am telling anyone who will listen that they too must read The Book of Told.

For the first time in many years I have found a book that I didn't want to put down. I wanted to just continue reading to find out where the story was going.
