My God stuff thinkings

My children are nearly asleep, and I am waiting up to place their stuffed pillowcases at the end of their beds.

Christmas is a special time of year, undoubtedly!

I have been reading of food that was offered to idols recently, and how Paul used this as one of his recommendations to abstain from, when it was asked how a gentile should approach the customs of the Jews (forgive me if I have this slightly wrong as it is getting late).

Food offered to idols:

The thought intrigues me.

I have always viewed this in the literal sense and found it easy to adhere to. But taking it on a deeper level, I will try to explain how it is more profound and important in the kingdom of heaven than I ever thought.

I am talking about our spiritual food.

It has been my favorite thought to dwell on at night lately, but I have to admit, I have fallen to sleep each time without coming to a great epiphany moment—it has always stayed just out of reach. Tonight, I am determined to nut it out.

Is it possible that our spiritual food is as much at risk of being ingested, after being offered to idols, as the Jews feared for their real food?

What are our idols? Idols are anything that is bowed to instead of God. They include, and are not limited to, fears, music, jobs, family, ideas, hobbies, culture, education, ambition, identity, church. Each is only as powerful as the honor we give it.

I think that if our spiritual food (the Words of God; insights from Godly men and women; direct visions, prophecies, or miracles; the Holy Spirit) is first put before the feet of our personal idols, then perhaps this act filters out the full power that God could have shown us if we had received the food and placed it right in our mouths - first.

Could our idols act as a sort of boiling down of our food, so that the nutritional value is reduced? I don’t know how else to explain this. I do know that when we look straight at Jesus, acknowledging that the idols are nearby, that we are bypassing the weakening of our faith. We are ingesting Him fully as He intended!

Imagine feasting on the finest foods God created, and try to grasp how beneficial they must be to our body! He is holding nothing back from us. We can eat of pure food! We do not need to buy the cheapest varieties in our life; those kinds that are for those on a budget, and are reduced in nutritional value by being sifted at the feet of our fears and deepest desires that are not God’s.

An example may be in church. We do not have to chase every new way or technology in order to reach people with Jesus. The Untold are hungry for real food as much as we are. They will know quality when they see it.

We can know quality! We can know abundance in spiritual food! We live life to the fullest because it is He who fills us!! My heart makes all sorts of funny feelings when I see it so clearly again, how much He loves us! Our God loves us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And that is the reason for Christmas. His love for us, and his gift of such quality broke all need for past sacrifices. Just eat from the bountiful table He provides and remember Him at your Christmas dinner!

Now, I will sneak to the bases of my children’s beds and deliver them a surprise for the morning, wrapped in old pillowcases (like Jesus came wrapped in simple cloth) but filled with goodies that will thrill their minds!

God has blessed, and we will continue to learn to receive it.

Merry Christmas!

Kylie, I would be delighted to have my name as a side character in your next book. I am telling anyone who will listen that they too must read The Book of Told.

For the first time in many years I have found a book that I didn't want to put down. I wanted to just continue reading to find out where the story was going.
