My God stuff thinkings

I sat in my nurse’s chair shocked recently by a conversation between two teen girls waiting for the results of a pregnancy test. They were discussing the need to be hairless ‘down there’, a topic arising by the fear one of the girls presented at the thought she was unshaven in ‘that region’ yet potentially needing STD swabs.
Assuring her she did not need swabs, the second girl laughed at her for being so negligent, saying “What will your boyfriend think with you all hairy!?” After some time of this blushable discourse, I was compelled to move the topic on, but not without a stab at the lie behind the mass mindset that our under 30’s have fallen into.
“Did you know that the mentality behind the pressure you girls face to be hairless stems from child porn, sex slavery and an early lack of knowledge of AIDS and STD’s?”
They looked at me with blank expressions I can easily recall—actually, no, they were uneducated expressions.
As a Practice Nurse, Smear-taker and advisor at sexual health consults with young women, I am not naive to the peer pressures young people have fallen prey to, believing only a fully-groomed vagina can be appreciated. Men place these weights on their partners through ridicule and shame, having been fed off an early diet of porn—something few girls can stand up to at that age.
But we all know how difficult it would be to stop even shaving our legs (let’s be honest), though this trend is only 50 years old.
I have decided to intervene early with my four daughters, normalizing their growing bodies and neutralizing the force that might convince them that all puberty hair is ugly and must be removed at all cost for pleasure, love and acceptance. I can feel the bear rising in me now!
As a nurse and abolitionist, I have been taught the background behind this ever-increasing wave which fuels our worsening society.  As the perversion of child porn increases, the base men behind it become leaders in our children’s lives by creating distorted views in their minds through a need for younger and fresher ‘meat’.
The current fashion of hairlessness began among strippers at a time when AIDS and other STD’s were first thought to be passed on through uncleanliness. This fed porn participants to adopt the trend. Now an entire hair removal industry blooms from society’s acceptance of this implanted idealism.

My message:
“Girls—you are beautiful just as nature made you! If anyone is pressurizing you to fit the mold for their sexual satisfaction, you do not have to. More than likely these guys are under just as much pressure as you to be doing the latest thing. Do not feed the beast. We are women, not children. Pubic hair (there, I said it) arrives to show we are sexually mature, and is needed for warmth, airflow, and to create a barrier between germs and your skin.
Be fearless, girls.
Be proud of yourselves.
Just as too thin models are finally being ruled out of influence on you, imitation of children’s bodies can follow.
Thousands of years of history have proved that men will still want you hairy - even 'evolution' will not rid you of it given time. There are reasons for our design. And if nothing else, fight for the protection of children’s bodies, and think twice about feeding the monster that accuses you into compliance with imitation of the innocent.”

Kylie, I would be delighted to have my name as a side character in your next book. I am telling anyone who will listen that they too must read The Book of Told.

For the first time in many years I have found a book that I didn't want to put down. I wanted to just continue reading to find out where the story was going.
