Anci-ent History:
Told, in the first person, outlines
the setting for his story, in which Habit is sent to a valley to heal and establish a community called the Habitation. Centrally located is the Habitat, a great building of knowledge.
(Note: each level relates to a thousand years in human history)
Habitat Level One:
Brew discovers a stone by which the author communicates
with him. The stone provides proof that the valley is a 3-dimensional story written in answer to a conflict Brew and his friends can barely comprehend.
Brew watches his brother die of a disease, and in grief, stumbles into the Habitat unknowingly. He is in fear of the Specialty residing within, who may catch him.
With the help of friends, he learns the Inhabitants are on a books timeline and have a job to do before the story ends.
Habitat Level Two:
Brew’s
longtime friend, begins the building of a temple to honor the Ever-Nurture Tree. Another friend is miraculously healed by the author after an accident. The Inhabitants face more disease, and are challenged to discover their meanings.
Strange hummings bring distress.
Brew attempts to go ‘cold
turkey’ from the Ent produce, and learns a lesson in his attempt.
Habitat Level Three:
Brew secretly returns and explores the Habitat, discovering
it is an internal Table of Contents, complete with hindsight and foresight walls. He learns of a prophecy regarding an antidote to the diseases devastating the valley, and he hears a rumor regarding an appeasement-sacrifice to the Ent. Brew develops feelings
for a friend he thought of as a sister.
Brew and his friends learn they can be powerful Words in the story that can alter the way it reads.
Habitat Level Three:
A stranger is employed to work on the antidote at the base of the Ent. The temple is completed and the opening ceremony brings conflict. The stranger is sacrificed
during the ceremony, unknowingly at the hands of Brew himself. Brew learns his betraying friend is the rival author, and the leader of the Untold!
Hummings
and earthquakes unsettle the valley.
Habitat Level Four:
Miraculously, the gardener appears again and tells Brew to sit on the chair of perspective, which the
author wrote the story from - a chair in the dome of the Habitat. From this chair, Brew can see the walls of 'insight', and tries to tell others.
The
Told (the author’s followers) discover the Specialty are a myth, and the Habitat is opened for all to learn from. Brew is persecuted as the Untold form a powerful social system, and another friend fronts this false cause while still claiming to be of
the Told.
Habitat Level
Five:
Brew and friend are arrested for spreading lies, and Brew loses his writing hand as they escape.
His romantic interest disappears.
A persecutor is converted dramatically
at a battle scene. Brew struggles to cope with one hand, and studies the newly opened walls of the upper level of the Habitat, knowing the end of the Ent times are near.
Habitat Level Six:
Brew finds his love interest pregnant and in labor to the leader of the Untold.
The Told and Untold prepare for battle in the
Habitat. Brew arranges their Words into powerful sentence structures to combat the rival author. The Told unite, and yet they are deceived by an illusion.
The origin of the hummings is discovered.
The Ent is ring-barked.
The rival author is killed by a fire, which burns down the entire Habitat leaving only the white stone structure of the author’s foundation signature, TOLD, declaring the book Leonard Told's intellectual property from
the beginning. The Told walk into reality and the book covers close on the Untold.
